Downloading the vmss2core.exe utility

Issue/Introduction

• The vmss2core can be downloaded as a standalone utility in the Free Downloads section of Broadcom Support Portal (BSP)
• Newer versions are also bundled with VMware Workstation Pro and VMware Fusion.  See: How to obtain the latest version of vmss2core.exe without installing VMware Workstation Pro.

Note: The version of vmss2core available in the Free Downloads section of Broadcom support portal is an older version and does not support Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025. For these operating systems, use a newer version bundled with VMware Workstation Pro or VMware Fusion.

Environment

• VMware vSphere ESXi
• VMware Workstation 
• VMware Fusion

Resolution

1. Navigate to the Free Software Downloads for VMware section of the Broadcom Support Portal, then click "Flings"
   
   
   
   
2. Search for vmss2core and select the version available in the Release column:
   
   
   
   
3. Read the Terms and Conditions by clicking on the "Terms and Conditions" link then check the box before "I agree to the Terms and Conditions":
   
   
4. Download the required vmss2core version for your operating system.
   
   
5. Note: vmss2core also is bundled with VMware Workstation Pro and VMware Fusion and can be located at the following directories after installation.

• Windows (32-bit):
  C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Workstation\

• Windows (64-bit):
  C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\

• Linux:
  /usr/bin/

• macOS (Fusion):
  /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/
