Issue/Introduction

  • You are running HCX 4.10.0.
  • While editing the Compute Profile, the following error is observed in the UI: 'Unable to generate Connection Rules' during the 'Edit Compute Profile' step, Step 5 of the Pre-Deployment Validation:

  • The following error is observed in /common/logs/admin/web.log:
2024-09-25 10:01:48.902 UTC [https-jsse-nio-127.0.0.1-8443-exec-8, Ent: HybridityAdmin, , TxId: TxId: ########-####-####-####-############] ERROR c.v.v.h.a.i.ComputeProfileRestController- Basic validation of compute profile failed. Errors: [{"code":"E_INVALID_INPUT","message":"The selected network container <network-container-name> is not attached to all of the specified host(s) [<hostname>."},{"code":"E_INVALID_INPUT","message":"None of the specified switch(es) are accessible to any of the hosts in the specified service computes."}].
  • There are more than one deployment cluster in the HCX compute profile and Network Extension and Migration services are enabled for the compute profile.

Environment

HCX 4.10

Cause

This issue is caused by a validation introduced in HCX 4.10, where network switches are incorrectly validated against both the deployment and service clusters in the Compute Profile. In earlier versions, the validation was limited to deployment clusters only, ensuring that the required networks and broadcast domains were available across hosts in the deployment clusters. However, with HCX 4.10, an additional validation is performed on the service clusters, mistakenly triggering the error message even though all hosts in the service clusters have valid network access.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware HCX 4.10.1, available at Broadcom downloads.
If you are having difficulty finding and downloading software, please review the Download Broadcom products and software KB.

Workaround for HCX 4.10:
Create a separate compute profile.
