Issue/Introduction

  • Attempts to perform a scheduled backup for a VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) 4.x cloud site to an SFTP server, as detailed in the following document, do not complete successfully: Schedule backup archives

  • The SFTP user credentials and connection appear to be correct.
  • Errors similar to the following can be seen in /opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log:

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x

Cause

VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) 4.x requires a minimum amount of space to perform backups on each of the appliances. When performing a backup for the entire cloud site, the following is required.

  • Cloud Director Replication Management Appliance: 40% free space
  • Each Replicator Appliance instance: 35% free space
  • Tunnel Appliance: 35% free space


When performing a scheduled backup of any individual VCDA 4.x appliance, 40% free space is required.
