Issue/Introduction

When changing the group policy on Horizon or the vSAN Datastore default policy for vSAN Datastore, already created AppStack volumes VMDKs failed to update the new policy.

Cause

AppStack VMDKs are not associated with any VM on vSAN and vCenter to check the to check the policy compliance.

Resolution

To fix or change the storage policy for the already created AppStack volumes VMDKs, we can use the workaround below.

  1. Attach AppStack VMDK(s) to a powered-off VM.
  2. Right-click on the VM then go to Policy -> Check Storage Policy Compliance

This will update the policy for the VMDK created before the policy change.

This is the only way to update the policy since it is a vCenter function.

Additional Information

The below KB has more information on the policy for AppStack VMDKs.
