Opatch failed with error code = 73 when applying a latest Oracle CPU

Issue/Introduction

You want to update your DLP Oracle DB to latest Oracle CPU and see Opatch failed with error code = 73. In addition, in the opatch log you find the below SEVERE entry:

[May 8, 2024 2:11:38 PM] [SEVERE]   OUI-67073:UtilSession failed: null

Environment

DLP 15.X / 16.X

Oracle 19c

Cause

OPatch is not updated to the same version as provided in the CPU package.

Resolution

Before applying the latest CPU patch based on Download and install Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) for Symantec DLP (broadcom.com), unpack OPatch files provided with the CPU to ORACLE_HOME (e.g. C:\oracle\product\19.3.0.0\db_1). You may want to backup the existing OPatch directory before replacing it with newest files.
