During rollback of a failed snapshot creation task on a Virtual Machine may cause the vmdks/snapshots to become read-only

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

After deleting a snapshot on VM or reverting to a snapshot on VM, Guest OS may experience filesystem errors.

This issue is only present in vSAN ESA 8.0 Update 2.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.2

Cause

When taking a snapshot on a Virtual Machine, the snapshot creation process may fail and, during rollback, vSAN incorrectly unlinks the object running point causing the vmdk to stop accepting I/O writes.

Resolution

The issue is fixed in vCenter / ESXi 8.0 P03
