Issue/Introduction
This article explains the vSAN iSCSI target service – Network configuration check in the vSAN Health Service and provides details about why it might report an error.
Resolution
Q: What does the vSAN iSCSI target service – Network configuration check do?
This health check verifies whether the network configuration of the vSAN iSCSI target service is valid.
Q: What does it mean when it is in an error state?
This health check validates the presence of the default vmknic for the vSAN iSCSI target service, and verifies that all the existing targets have valid vmknic configurations.
Q: How does one troubleshoot and fix the error state?
Verify that the default vmknic and the target vmknics are present and that they are configured correctly.
To configure the default vmknic, select Cluster > Configure > vSAN > General > vSAN iSCSI Target Service and click the Edit button. You can also run the esxcli vsan iscsi defaultconfig set command on the host.
To configure the target vmknics in the iSCSI Targets table, select Cluster > Configure > vSAN > iSCSI Targets, or run the esxcli vsan iscsi target set on the host.
To verify if the service is running
/etc/init.d/vitd status /etc/init.d/vitd restart
vitd = vSAN iSCSI Target Daemon = accepts incoming connections from the initiator vitsafehd = responsible for opening up vmdks so that initiators can access them.
