Modifying the DNS settings of VMware Aria Operations

Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to modify the domain name resolution settings of an all existing VMware Aria Operations appliances. (Primary, Replica, Data nodes and Cloud proxies)

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x
VMware Aria Operations 8.17.x
VMware Aria Operations 8.16.x
VMware Aria Operations 8.14.x
VMware Aria Operations 8.12.x

Resolution

When VMware Aria Operations is initially deployed, the DNS server(s), domain, and search domain are configured in the OVF template customization. To change the DNS settings for the appliance VM after the deployment, modify the vApp Options with the desired values using the following steps.

  1. Log into the VMware Aria Operations admin UI as admin.
  2. Click the Take Cluster Offline button and wait until the cluster status changes to Offline.
  3. Log into the vSphere Web UI and locate the VMware Aria Operations appliance VM.
  4. Perform Shutdown Guest OS on the VMware Aria Operations appliance VM.
  5. From the appliance VM summary page, click Configure
  6. Click Settings > vApp Options.
Note: If vApp Options are disabled or nonexistent, restore them using the correct KB article below for the version of VMware Aria Operations in use.
  1. Click the Radio button next to the setting with Label Domain Name Servers and click Set Value.
Tip: The Label column can be filtered using the word Domain to easily locate the settings. 
  1. Edit the Domain Name Servers IP address(es) in the Property Value field. Use a comma to separate 2 IP addresses.
  2. Click OK to close the Set value dialog.
  3. Repeat steps 7-9 for the settings with Label Domain Name and Domain Search Path if desired.
  4. Repeat steps 4-10 on all other VMware Aria Operations appliance VMs which need DNS setting updates.
  5. Power on the VMware Aria Operations appliance VM(s).
  6. Log into the VMware Aria Operations admin UI as admin.
  7. Click the Bring Cluster Online button to bring the cluster online.
