Issue/Introduction

This check validates that the link speed is consistent across all physical network adapters used by vSAN. Inconsistent link speeds can cause performance issues. VMware recommends that the link speed of the physical network adapters used by vSAN on each host be consistent.

Symptoms:
One of the physical uplinks used by vSAN is slow compared with other hosts within the cluster.
Performance issues such as high network latency, congestion, and so on.

Environment

VMware vSAN 6.x
VMware vSAN 7.x
VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

The alert should be triggered if link speeds are set differently among the vSAN nodes within the vSAN cluster.

Resolution

View the health check details from the vSAN Skyline health monitor. The health check table lists the physical network adapter used by vSAN on each host. Check the last column of the table, which shows the link speed, to determine which host has a link speed that is inconsistent with the others.

Once you identify the inconsistent host, select it in the vSphere Client navigator. Click the Configure tab and select Networking > Physical adapters. Configure the network adapter with the correct link speed. You can also use a different physical network adapter on the host in the vSAN cluster, under the network adapter consistency requirement. In addition to verifying the link speed, you will want to verify that all management and vSAN interfaces have matching MTU sizes.
