Issue/Introduction

During an IPL, and as the CAMaster Address Space is initialized,a Logrec error “PIDS/CATARGHW FLDS/CPUTYPE RIDS/UNKNOWN RIDS/CAMASTER”  may be noticed after an upgrade to any of these IBM zEnterprise machine types.

  • z15
  • z15-T02
  • z16

CAMASTER includes a processor table; a feature setting that other Broadcom products or solutions can potentially check and optimize their code path depending upon the processor capabilities.  However, at the moment, Broadcom development are unaware of any product that uses this information.  Therefore, this processor table plays no part in the normal functionality of CAMASTER or any Broadcom product that uses CAMASTER.  Despite any of these messages being issued, the CAMASTER and the other Broadcom products will successfully initialize and continue to operate routinely.

If issued, and depending upon the machine type, customers will receive the following message written to LOGREC:
  “PIDS/CATARGHW FLDS/CPUTYPE RIDS/UNKNOWN RIDS/CAMASTER”

  • z15            CATHW03W machine type 8561 unknown.
  • z15 -T02   CATHW03W machine type 8562 unknown.
  • z16           CATHW03W machine type 3931 unknown.
  • z16           CATHW03W machine type 3932 unknown.

Environment

Common Services for z/OS r15.0 executing on a z15 or z16 processor.

Cause

The new machine type is not found in the current processor table.

Resolution

As the specific machine type is not included in the CAMASTER processor table, and in order to prevent the message from being issued, apply the appropriate maintenance based upon the machine type as listed:

  • SO10253 corrects the "CATHW03W machine type 8561 unknown" for z15 machines for Common Services release 15.0
  • SO15509 corrects the "CATHW03W machine type 8562 unknown" for z15-T02 machines for Common Services release 15.0
  • LU05666 corrects the "CATHW03W machine type 3931 unknown" for  z16 machines for Common Services release 15.0
  • LU09769 corrects the "CATHW03W machine type 3932 unknown" for  z16 machines for Common Services release 15.0

  • NOTE:  An IPL is required to implement each fix once it is applied.  The CA Master Address Space is initialized during an IPL and remains active for the life of the IPL.  After initialization, CAMASTER uses minimal CPU, and cannot be stopped or restarted.
Also an upgrade to either of the z/16 machine types may require an upgrade to your IBM SCRT level to the latest release.  Otherwise your SCRT reports will receive a SCRTTOOL007 message that the machine type is not recognized.  Please review an additional Broadcom KD article Broadcom ISV SCRT Report receivng SCRTTOOL007: MACHINE NOT FOUND IN TABLE. MODEL TYPE type MODEL NUMBER model .
