Licensing Information: No license key is required for Personal Use.  When installing either application, you will be asked for a License Key and there will be an option to select for Personal Use.

Install VMware Fusion

Notes:

  • You can have multiple versions of VMware Fusion on one Mac, but they must be named differently. For example, you can have Fusion 13 named 'VMware Fusion' and Fusion 12 named 'VMware Fusion 12' within the /Applications folder.
  • Note that the same .DMG can be used to install Fusion on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. However, this universal DMG does not enable Apple Silicon Macs to run x86 operating systems or vice-versa.

After the download completes, open the folder where the file was downloaded. The default location is the Downloads folder for the user account on the Mac (Finder > Downloads). Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation.

Alert: Installing Fusion 13 automatically removes any older versions of Fusion and replaces them with the new version.

  1. Double-click the VMware Fusion icon or drag it to the Applications folder. This removes any older version and installs the new version.
  2. When you see the application downloaded from the internet warning, click Open.
  3. If an older version of Fusion is running, you may see a warning indicating this. Quit the older version of Fusion after shutting down all virtual machines.
  4. At the next prompt, enter your Mac OS administrator password for a one-time setup.
  5. After the initialization completes, you see the license agreement. Click Agree to proceed.
  6. Enter the Mac OS administrator password when prompted.

After Fusion Installation

VMware Fusion gets installed in the Applications folder and can be started from there.

After installing Fusion, you must create a virtual machine and install an operating system (such as Windows or Linux) inside that virtual machine. This installation must come from an ISO disk image (.iso).
