Issue/Introduction

This article helps in troubleshooting issues with NSX apply during transition.

• Issue of NSX solution apply task failing is observed when there are drifts in base image / any component as part of transition.
• In the Apply NSX Solution task, below can be seen:
  
  A general system error occurred: Solution apply failed because the vSphere Lifecycle image contains either a new ESXi version or a new addons version or new components. Please proceed to the vSphere Client Lifecycle Manager to update ESXi or addons or components along with the solution 'com.vmware.nsxt'

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

vLCM transition workflow in SDDC Manager fails if NSX solution does not get set in the software spec of the cluster.

Resolution

Update the vendor add-on in a vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) cluster image, edit the cluster's desired state image, validate the changes, and remediate the hosts.

1. Upload the New Add-on (If Missing)
   
   If the latest vendor add-on version is not showing up in your vCenter depot, upload it manually. Refer Newer versions of a vendor addon might be missing when configuring a Lifecycle Manager cluster image in vCenter Server 7.0/8.0
   
   
   1. 1. Go to the Main Menu and select Lifecycle Manager.
      2. Click the Actions dropdown menu on the top right.
      3. Select Import Updates.
      4. Browse and select the downloaded vendor offline bundle .zip file, then click Import
         
         

2. Edit the Cluster Image

   Once the add-on is available in the depot, apply it to the cluster

   1. Navigate to Hosts and Clusters in the vSphere Client.
   2. Select your target Cluster from the inventory tree.
   3. Click the Updates tab.
   4. Go to Hosts > Image.
   5. Click Edit in the right-hand corner of the Image card.
   6. Locate the Vendor Add-on section and click Select (or Change).
   7. Choose the newer version of your vendor add-on from the list.
   8. Click Validate to run a compatibility check against your existing hardware and components.
   9. Click Save to lock in the new desired state.
   
   
3. Remediate the Cluster
   
   Saving the image marks the hosts as "Non-Compliant". Apply the changes to push out the update

1. 1. Click Check Compliance to review the impact on your hosts.
   2. Click Remediate All (or select individual hosts and click Remediate).
   3. Review the impact wizard, accept any end-user license agreements (EULAs), and click Start Remediation.
