Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading to VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.2.0, there are Edges alerts: "Pnic status of the edge transport node <UUID> is down", and "Overall status of the edge transport node <UUID> is down"
  • get interfaces run on the Edge CLI shows no fp-eth interfaces.
  • The dataplane service is crashing constantly and generating core files: /var/log/core/core.statsXX.XXXXXXXXXX.XXXX.X.XX.gz

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.2.

Cause

The dataplane service crashes because the control prioritization setting is enabled. Prior to VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.2, the datapath didn't use control prioritization even when the configuration file had it enabled.
fp-eth interfaces are created on start of the dataplane service and deleted when it is stopped or crashes, which is why there are no fp-eth interfaces.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware NSX-T Data Center 3.2.1 available at Broadcom Downloads.
If you are having difficulty finding and downloading software, please review the Download Broadcom products and software KB.

Workaround

  1. From the Edge CLI, run:
    set dataplane ctrl-prio disabled
  2. A dataplane restart (or start) is required.
    Run restart service dataplane
