Issue/Introduction

The OnLine Backup (OLB) stops and no backups are created unless it is manually run or it is left for over a week or more, in which case the time and day of the backup are random, very intermittent and not in keeping with the set schedule set under:

OneClick -> VNM -> Information -> Online Database Backup

Environment

DX NetOps Spectrum all supported releases

Cause

This can be caused by performance issues affecting the SpectroSERVER. For example, it has been observed that when there are a large number of Global collections using dynamic updates and these updates are set frequently (say every 6 hours or less), then this places a performance load on the SpectroSERVER and in turn affects the ability of the OnLine Backup to run.

Resolution

The performance issues affecting the SpectroSERVER need to be addressed. To identify the cause, you can run perfCollector9 as per:

KB : Spectrum Perfcollector9 Details and Instructions

And then open a support ticket and attach the results.

In the above example, adjusting the update time periods of the dynamic GCs resolved all the performance related issues and allowed OLB to run normally again as per schedule.
