Issue/Introduction

We are planning to upgrade from Harvest 12.1 to Harvest 14.5.  Can this be done in one step or is an interim upgrade required?

Environment

CA Harvest SCM v12.x

Resolution

An interim upgrade is required.

When planning your upgrade of Harvest, you should know that upgrading from Harvest 13.0.3/4 or Harvest 14.0.x to Harvest 14.5 can be done in a single step.  For Harvest versions older than v13.0.3, you will need to upgrade in two steps.

The easiest way to accomplish this upgrade is to have a second server on which to install SCM v13.0.3.

First, install SCM Server version 13.0.3 on a temporary server and use Hdbsetup to upgrade the database to the 13.0.3 schema

Then, install SCM 14.5 on the server that will host production when the upgrade is complete.  Then use the Hdbsetup again to upgrade the database to the 14.5 schema.

Since SCM v13.0.3 is no longer supported, its installation files have been removed from the download center on the support portal.  If you need those installation files, please contact support.

Steps for upgrade will include:

  1. Move a copy of the Harvest database to the new SQL Server server.  Instructions here: SQL Server database migration to a new server

  2. On the SCM v13.0.3 server, install SCM v13.0.3 server and client.  For the installation package, please contact support.

  3. On the SCM v13.0.3 server, upgrade the Harvest database schema to v13.0.3.  Instructions here: Upgrading Schema For a SQL Server Database with HDBSetup

  4. On the SCM v14.5 server, install SCM v14.5 server and client (and agent if you like).  Installation package can be found in the support.broadcom.com download center.

  5. On the SCM v14.5 server, upgrade the Harvest database schema to v14.5.  Instructions here: Upgrading Schema For a SQL Server Database with HDBSetup

  6. On the SCM v14.5 server, install Harweb.  Instructions here: Installing Harweb on the Windows platform with SQL Server database

  7. When it comes time to cutover to production,

  8. Move the Harvest database to the new SQL Server server.  Instructions here: SQL Server database migration to new server
