IT Analytics Cube Install Fails Exception: Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to install a cube for IT Analytics, you may encounter the error Exception:  Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object in the IT Analytics Event Viewer.

Cause

The server mode in Microsoft SQL Analysis Server is set to tabular mode instead of multidimensional.

Resolution

You can change the server mode by uninstall Microsoft SQL Analysis Server and installing it again selecting Multidimensional mode instead of tabular.  There are other ways of accomplishing this without having to uninstall.   Those methods are not officially supported, and should be used at your own risk.  You can search for ways of accomplishing this, here is one way that was found and used:  How to change tabular mode to multidimensional model
