As a part of Broadcom’s ongoing effort to focus on the latest technologies and mitigate the risk of exposing you to unsupported Java versions/critical vulnerabilities, we are announcing that the following capabilities will reach End of Life on December 31, 2023:
The first EOL announcement occurred in February of 2023. The latest EOL announcement is October of 2023.
The Java MC and Java VPM will not be included in future SGOS software updates beginning with the SGOS 7.4.1.1 release (Spring 2023). Edge SWG (ProxySG) Admin Console (SGAC)—the next-generation web interface for edge proxy appliances—is the successor to the Java-based Management Console and can be accessed through the latest browsers. Web VPM is the successor to Java VPM and enables a streamlined interface with a modern look and feel. Support for launching Java VPM from Symantec Management Center will also end after December 31, 2023.
One of the many benefits of upgrading to version 7.4.1.1 is that the users will not need Java runtime on their desktop, nor will they have to download the Java launcher files, to use the features of the Edge SWG appliance.
In preparation for the End of Life (EOL), we ask that all impacted customers migrate to SGAC and Web VPM as soon as possible.
1. What do I have to do to use the new Admin Console and Web VPM?
To transition from Java MC to SGAC, use the following versions of SGOS to launch SGAC from Edge SWG (ProxySG):
You also have the option to launch SGAC from Management Center (MC). On MC 3.3.2.1 and later, SGAC is pre-loaded. If you are running an earlier version of MC, download and install the SGAC package on MC. Refer to KB 251426 and the Admin Console documentation for details.
To transition from Java VPM to the Web VPM, no specific actions are needed. Access the Web VPM from the Edge SWG (ProxySG) or MC. Refer to Web VPM documentation and MC documentation for details.
2. After the EOL, can I continue to use the Java MC?
The Java MC is accessible in all SGOS versions prior to version 7.4.1.1. No support will be provided post-EOL. If you continue to use the Java MC after EOL, you must accept the risk of encountering unsupported Java versions and critical vulnerabilities.
3. After the EOL, can I continue to use the Java VPM?
Yes, but there will not be any support provided after EOL. The Java VPM will be removed/disabled from all MC releases after December 31, 2023.
4. Can I access the Java MC in the SGOS 7.4.1.1 release?
The Java MC will not be available in SGOS 7.4.1.1.
5. Is it possible to get an exception or extended support for Java MC or Java VPM after EOL?
No exceptions will be granted after the EOL.
6. What are the benefits of upgrading from Java MC to SGAC?
The SGAC:
7. What are the benefits of upgrading from Java VPM to Web VPM?
The Web VPM:
