Issue/Introduction

You are unable to proceed with the WSSA installation, as Unified Agent was/is still installed on the machine.

You have run the uninstall CLI command and manually verified that folders and registry entries are removed.

MSI database is detecting Unified Agent to be installed.

Cause

You could not install the WSS Agent (WSSA) because during the WSSA installation, the system was not able to locate the original Unified Agent installer to uninstall Unified Agent (UA).

Steps Taken:

- Uninstalled UA manually via command line: Silently uninstall Unified Agent

- Also manually checked for Program Files registry keys: Manually uninstall Unified Agent

Resolution

Run the Microsoft uninstallation repair utility to fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed:

Microsoft - Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

The Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter helps you automatically repair issues when you're blocked from installing or removing programs.  It also fixes corrupted registry keys:

Select "Uninstalling"

  • This completely removed UA and fixed corrupted registry keys with the MSI database
  • After this it was possible to successfully install WSSA
