Unable to install WSS Agent due to previous Unified Agent installation

Issue/Introduction

You are unable to proceed with the WSSA installation, as Unified Agent was / is still installed on the machine. 

You have run the uninstall cmd and also manually verified that folders / registry entries are removed.

MSI database is still detecting Unified Agent to be installed.

 

 

 

 

Environment

Cause

You could not install the WSSA because during the setup, the system was not able to locate the original UA installer to uninstall Unified Agent ( it appears it was installed from a shared drive ).

 

Steps Taken:

- We uninstalled UA manually via command line: Silently uninstall Unified Agent

- We also manually checked for program files / registry keys: Manually uninstall Unified Agent

- The issue still persisted. 

Resolution

Run the following Microsoft utility to fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter helps you automatically repair issues when you're blocked from installing or removing programs. It also fixes corrupted registry keys.

Select Uninstalling

This completely Removed UA , fixes corrupted registry keys and any others issues with the MSI database.

After this it was possible to install WSSA.
