Installing WinPE11 ADK for use in Deployment Solution 8.x

NOTE: WinPE 11 would not work (fail to build) on PXE Server with Windows Server version 2012 R2 due to Microsoft limitations. See linked KB 225580

Resolution
The following must be completed from the Notification Server / Symantec Management Platform while logged in as an Administrator:
- Uninstall any existing ADK's from the system through add/remove programs or by running the older ADK setup file(s) manually and choosing to Uninstall.
- The following table shows the supported versions of WinPE for Deployment Solution (for more details on Deployment Solution Support Matrix, please check here):
This section shows the Windows 11 Pre-installation Environment (WinPE) versions supported in Deployment Solution 8.5 RU4, 8.6.x, and 8.7.x.

WinPE 11 22H2 Starting from 8.7 - Download the appropriate ADK for the version of Deployment Solution being used:
- 8.x: click here to download the Windows 11 21H2 build of the ADK. With build WinPE10 1809 and after, Microsoft split the Windows PE tools out of the ADK. After the ADK is installed, click here to download the Windows PE ADK add-on and install it (using the default settings).
- 8.7.x: click here to download the latest WinPE 11 22H2 build of ADK, and after ADK is installed click here to download the WinPE ADK addon and install using default settings.
- Run the ADK setup file and install it to the default location on your SMP (Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\), then click Next.
- Select 'Yes' or 'No' on the Windows Kits Privacy page and click Next.
- Accept the license agreement
- On the 'Select the features you want to install' page check only 'Deployment tools'. (Older Versions pre-1809 of WinPE also checked 'Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE)'
- Click 'Install'
- Repeat Steps 4 - 8 for the Windows PE add-on
- Open the NS console and navigate to ‘Settings > All settings > Deployment > Preboot Configurations’
- Click on the ‘Change WinPE’ drop down and select ‘WinPE 11.0’
- The Win11 ADK import screen is shown. If not, go to step #13 and modify the 'prebootos.ini' file. The hyperlink under #1 will not be selectable because the WAIK has already been installed.
- Verify that the link 'Click here to import Windows ADK' is viewable and clickable. If it is not AND you have installed the appropriate ADK listed above, do the following in 8.6.x:
- Navigate to “<drive>:\Program Files\Altiris\Deployment\BDC\bootwiz” and open ‘prebootos.ini’.
- Modify the bolded lines to false.

PXECREATE=True - Save the file. Repeat steps #10-12 to try the Import again.
- Starting from Version 8.7 - from console Settings>Deployment>Manage Preboot Configurations in Preboot Environment Settings tab is now possible to Re-Import ADK install into DS:
- Click on 'Click here to import Windows ADK' to start the ADK import process.
- Allow the ‘BDC’ package to update on all Package Servers
- Create/Recreate PXE preboots and/or automation folders with the new WinPE 11.
Note 1: If there is a 'check mark' next to the preboot OS in bootwiz modify the 'prebootos.ini' as noted in Step #12 above.
Note 2: It may be necessary to remove the waik_winpe11 folder if the bootwiz.exe shows a checkmark next to the version and architecture to reinstall
The waik_winpe11 is located in <install drv>:\Program Files\Altiris\Deployment\BDC
