Issue/Introduction

Session recording or database schedule CIFS mount failed with the following error

PAM-CM-0058: CIFS mount operation unsuccessful. Mount point:\\nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn\recordings Hostname: nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn

Environment

Release : all versions 4.x

Component : PRIVILEGED ACCESS MANAGEMENT

Cause

Possible causes

1. Firewall blocking TCP/445 and TCP/139,

2. Trailing or blank space(s) in the share path or username parameter value.

3. Unhandled special characters in password or username.

4. Additional security requirements set on the CIFS source that can block connections from the PAM appliance.

5. DNS issues resolving hostname as entered.

Resolution

Re-enter Share Path and User Name parameter value and make sure there is no trailing space(s) in the parameter value of Share Path or User Name and then Click [Save Settings] button.

Simplify the password characters to rule out any specific special characters.

Use PAM network tools to test name resolution specifically from the PAM appliance (not necessarily from a user workstation that may access different DNS servers)

After that, please try to mount again by clicking [Mount] button.

Additional Information

Some security issues may also be related to SMB Encryption set on newer versions of Windows servers, see the following KB:
