Issue/Introduction

You need to perform a license swap, which is the process of transferring the license, entitlements, and add-ons from a defective hardware appliance to a replacement appliance.

Resolution

A CA and Symantec Support (CASS) partner who owns a Cold Standby (CS)*, Chassis Replacement Unit (CRU) or Spare Unit (SU) which are not licensable and designed as replacement unit for a defective unit can swap a defective unit with a replacement unit by following the process outlined in this article.

Note: *Customers can only own Cold Standby (CS) units and can also perform a swap.

Please review the following before performing a swap.

The RMA replacement unit shipped by Broadcom is already licensed (Broadcom performs a swap before shipment); there is no need to perform the swap yourself. If you encounter any issues with the replacement unit license, contact Broadcom Customer Care using our Virtual Agent Chat, or open a support ticket.

To perform a swap

  1. Go to support.broadcom.com, and select the division Cyber Security Software

  2. Click My Entitlements to view your entitled products and search by the defective serial number in the search bar

  3. Click the License icon to access the asset page details.

  4. Click the Swap tab, and then select the replacement unit from the list of available units for this appliance.

  5. Accept the EULA, and click Swap. It might take up to 2 hours for the swap to finish and for the appliance to be licensed.
  6. Once the swap is completed, click Generate New Key and apply it to the appliance console. It might take up to 30 minutes for all subscriptions to be available to the appliance.
