Issue/Introduction

There are several features available to help you maximize your search experience on the Broadcom Support Portal.

• Personalize how search results are displayed
• Rearrange facet categories
• Hide facet categories
• Set favorite content sources
• Use advanced search

Resolution

Personalize how search results are displayed

Content that is displayed in search results has five elements:

• Title
• Summary
• Metadata (when applicable)
  • Article ID
  • Updated Date
  • Source (e.g. TechDocs, Knowledge Base, etc)
  • Product (currently displays only a single product, but others may also be applicable).

Each of these elements can be hidden for a more personalized search experience. These next steps walk you through the process.

Personalizing results display

1. Click on the GEAR icon on the  search results page.
   
2. Select the pencil icon when you are presented with two options.
   
3. Click the eye icon next to the element you want to hide.
   
   Note: We do not show tabs for sources like this is shown here, but this will impact the filters for products in the same way.
   
4. Click Apply Changes to save changes.

Rearrange facet categories

Facets are an advanced search feature. Because they act as filters, you can check one or more facets to confine the scope of your search and find more relevant documents. Facets include

• Sources: 
  • Communities
  • Knowledge Base
  • Tech Docs
  • Problems (Mainframe)
  • Solutions (Mainframe)
  • Product News
• Products
• Language: This is available for Tech Docs material only
• Version: This is available for Tech Docs material only

To rearrange facet categories

1. Click the gear icon on a search results page.
   
2. Select the pencil icon when you are presented with two options.
   
3. Rearrange facet categories by dragging one at a time. You can pull a facet category down or push it up.
   
4. Click Apply Changes to save the new order.

Hide facet categories

You can hide the facets you do not frequently use.

Hiding facet categories

1. Click the gear icon on a search results page.
   
2. Select the pencil icon when you are presented with two options.
   
3. Click the eye icon to hide a facet category.
   
4. Click Apply Changes to save.

Set favorite content sources

You can configure search so that it fetches documents from just one content source.

1. Click the gear icon on a search results page.
   
2. Select the pencil icon when you are presented with two options.
   
3. Select a content source from Preselect a Tab.
   
4. Click Apply Changes to save your preferences.
