Issue/Introduction

Issues when creating software update distribution policies in 8.5 RU4 if you edit options during wizard process.

For example,

1. If you right-click a bulletin (or multiple selected bulletins),

2. select Distribute Packages,

3. and change the target under the "Applied to section",

4. when you click "Next" and then "Distribute software updates", you get the screen below:

instead of:

In the Altiris logs on the Notification Server, you see this error:

Error saving new software bulletin policy: Test MSNS20-01-4494174_V3

Unable to run distribution task.

Resolution

There is a point fix available in CUMULATIVE POST ITMS 8.5 RU4 POINT FIXES

If you are unable to apply the point fix, there is a workaround:

1. When creating a new software update distribution policy using the right-click > Distribute Packages method, do not edit while using the wizard.

2. Just click "Next" and "Distribute software updates".

The policy will be created and will be disabled.

3. Navigate to Manage > Policies > Software > Patch Management > Software Update Policies > Windows and edit the policy as needed.

Note:
If you were able to create the policy but now that the policy is created, when you try to edit it and enable it/save it/etc. and it gives you an error 'A software update policy already exists with this name. Please enter another name.', but there isn’t another one.  Please refer to KB:

201124 "Cannot enable new Patch Mgmt policies: "A software update policy already exists with this name. Please enter another name"".
