How to reset the administrator password for the SSL Visibility Appliance

Issue/Introduction

The SSL Visibility Appliance is considered a secure device, and therefore has no means to reset a forgotten password. If you no longer have access to the appliance, it will require a factory reset. This will perform the following actions:

  • Wipes all keys, certificates and crypto sensitive material
  • Wipes all log files and configuration files
  • Restores the system to its default state

Note: Appliances upgraded to version 4.x cannot be factory reset back to version 3.x.

You will then need to perform the initial setup, including configuring IP, and choosing a new password for the administrator account.

Resolution

To perform a factory reset, you will need physical access to the appliance. Please refer to the following KB article:
