Mail routes apply to all email processed by Symantec Gateway Email Encryption. For Symantec Encryption Desktop (formerly PGP Desktop) Email, mail routes apply only to messages generated by Symantec Encryption Management Server (formerly PGP Universal Server) and sent to internal users.
Mail routing is used to establish static mail routes that override the DNS MX-record lookup normally used when determining where to route mail. In certain instances, this can provide a more efficient route, bypassing the loop through DMZ and the firewall.
