Ensure the parition/drive with the virus definitions is not full.
The virusdefs directory typically contains no more than two numbered folders (ie 20080402.004, 20080401.006), BinHub(Windows only), TextHub(Windows only), and incoming.
Location for Windows 2003: c:\program files\common files\symantec shared\virusdefs.
Location on Windows 2008: c:\ProgramData\Symantec\Definitions\VirusDefs
Location on Linux, AIX, Solaris, AS400: /opt/Symantec/virusdefs
Check the definfo.dat and usage.dat files.

If the usage.dat or definfo.dat refer to a set of definitions that does not appear as a folder in the virusdefs folder, update the file to point to the most recent set of definitions. Alternatively, try running the current Intelligent Updater.
run the savdefutil -l command.

by updating the information in the square brackets.
