Issue/Introduction

After you upgrade clients to Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 14 RU1, the clients stop getting updates from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM)

SEP System Log:

"Error An update for Intrusion Prevention Signatures failed to install.  Error: Content update general error (0xE0010001), DuResult: General error (32). LiveUpdate Manager "

Environment

SEPM is version 14 MP2 or earlier, clients are version 14 RU1

Cause

SEPM is not a version that can provide content to 14 RU1 client.

Resolution

Workaround: Configure the LiveUpdate policy to allow clients to update LiveUpdate content from Symantec or an internal LiveUpdate source.

Solution: Upgrade the SEPM to a version equal to, or greater than, that of the client.

The SEPM should always be at, or above the product version of clients that it manages. If the SEPM version is lower than that of the clients, it may not be able to provide appropriate content or policies to manage newer technologies introduced in the newer client version. Always upgrade the SEPM before upgrading clients.
