Unexpected Server Error after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager with Windows Authentication on a remote SQL Server

Issue/Introduction

After you install the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager with Windows Authentication using a remote SQL Server, an 'Unexpected Server Error' message appears, and Home, Monitors and Reports tabs are blank.

Cause

This appears to be related to a SQL Server ODBC driver compatibility issue.

 

Resolution

If the SQL 2005 Client tools are installed and in use on the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, downloading and installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components on the server hosting SQL Server 2008 R2 may resolve this issue.
