Issue/Introduction

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Service is running is running and client are connecting to the manager and getting updates. However the shortcut icon to open the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) console is missing.

Missing shortcut: Start > All Programs > Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager > Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console

Resolution

Solution 1

  1. Open the installation files for Symantec Endpoint Protection (either on the installation CD/DVD or the files downloaded from Symantec Fileconnect).
  2. Run setup.exe.
  3. Select Install Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
  4. Complete a repair install the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Alternatively, the repair install can typically be run from Add or Remove programs through the Windows Control Panel.

Solution 2

  1. Create a new shortcut to the file: sesm.bat, which is located by default in the folder: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin\
  2. This shortcut would open the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console.
