This article describes the minimal steps needed to prepare an Aladdin eToken Pro that is brand new from the manufacturer and has not been modified. The instructions in this document are specific to PGP Desktop 9.x although they may apply to PGP Desktop 8.x as well.
This article's purpose is for using an eToken Pro for both the standard encryption functions of PGP Desktop (9.x and 8.x) and Whole Disk Encryption when booting an encrypted hard drive.
This document was written using Aladdin Run Time Environment drivers version 3.65.
Changing the eToken PIN
Change the eToken PIN from the factory set default to a personalized one.
Creating a Key Pair on the eToken
Creating a key pair on the Aladdin eToken Pro with PGP Desktop 9.x.
The newly created keypair will now be listed under Smart Card Keys (as well as All Keys and My Private Keys). When the eToken is removed from the system, the public portion of the key will remain in the All Keys list. Only when the eToken is inserted into a USB slot will the private portion be accessible.
The eToken is Now Ready for Use
The eToken is now ready for use. The PGP Key stored on your eToken can now be used for any PGP Desktop feature. This includes PGP Whole Disk Encryption when booting the hard drive containing a Windows XP operating system.
