Why do large file transfers over SMB2 fail when the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) Network Threat Protection (NTP) component is installed/enabled?
No errors are displayed on screen, but the system may appear to "hang" during file transfers, and large file transfers will eventually fail.
This issue is caused by a conflict between the NTP component of the SEP 11 Release Update 6 (RU6) or newer client, and the SMB2 protocol. The SMB2 protocol was added as the preferred file transfer method for Windows File Sharing with the release of Windows Vista.
This problem is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6300.803 (RU6-MP3). For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, read Obtaining an upgrade or update for Symantec Endpoint Protection - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH103088.
