How can I remove Norton SystemWorks when it does not show in Add/Remove Programs?

Symptoms
You would like to install Symantec Endpoint Protection and need to uninstall Norton SystemWorks first, but Norton SystemWorks is not listed in Add/Remove Programs. How can this be accomplished?

Resolution

Always use Add/Remove Programs from the Windows Control Panel to uninstall software whenever possible. The following solutions are recommended only if uninstalling using Add/Remove Programs is not possible:

• To remove Norton SystemWorks 2001 or 2002, use the Norton SystemWorks Cleanup utility (SYMClean) as outlined in the Symantec Knowledge Base article Using the Norton SystemWorks cleanup utility (SYMClean)
• To remove Norton SystemWorks 2003 or later, use the Norton Removal Tool as outlined in the Symantec Knowledge Base article Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.
