Windows Assessment Scan failed to execute on Clients within hierarchy environment

Reviewed Child SMP Console > Reports > Software > Patch Management > Diagnostics > Windows System Assessment Scan Summary; found that multiple managed Clients weren't listed with recent executions of the Windows System Assessment Scan.

Patch Management Solution 8.1 RU4


Confirmed the Windows System Assessment Scan and Patch Install Tools packages were downloaded from the Parent SMP to the Child SMP with data corruption with differing package checksums between the SMP Servers within the hierarchy.



This issue will be resolved in a future release of Patch Management Solution. 

Resolution in PM 8.1 RU4: Download and install the attached drop-in PointFix

  1. Log onto the Parent SMP Server with Application Identity (Symantec Service Account) credentials
  2. Save the attached to a local drive and decompress the files
  3. Open the folder; right-click on the file PFInstaller2.exe and select Run as Administrator and Install
  4. Repeat the process on each Child SMP Server managed by this Parent SMP Server
  5. Delete all files from the Child SMP Servers from the following directories:
    • C:\Program Files\Altiris\Patch Management\Packages\WindowsVulnerabilityScan
    • C:\Program Files\Altiris\Patch Management\Packages\WindowsInstallTools

Resolution for other versions installed via the five-step process detailed above as follows:

  • PM 7.6 HF7: Download and install the attached drop-in PointFix
  • PM 8.0 HF6 v5: Download and install the attached drop-in PointFix
