Resolution

New Licenses

New licenses were introduced for 1500, 2000, and 2500 user limits for Secure Web Gateway Virtual Appliances (SWG VA) running on Microsoft's Hyper-V hypervisor or VMware’s vSphere Hypervisor. These licenses are available for SGOS versions versions 6.4, 6.5, 6.6, and later.

Memory Requirements and Recommendations

To use any of these licenses, you must configure the memory reservation for your SWG VA to be 8 GB. Blue Coat recommends configuring 8 GB of memory for all SWG VAs; however, not all user limits require 8 GB of memory. For details on how much memory specific user limits require, refer to the following table.

Configuring the Memory Reservation for a SWG VA Running on VMware’s vSphere Hypervisor

1. Select the SWG VA on the vSphere Hypervisor host you want to configure.
2. Right click and select Edit Settings.
   The Virtual Machine Properties window displays.
3. On the Resources tab, select Memory.
4. Specify the Reservation value for the memory allotted to the SWG VA.

Configuring the Memory Reservation and Reserve a CPU Core for a SWG VA Running on Microsoft Hyper-V Hypervisor

1. Access the Hyper-V Manager.
2. Right-click on the SWG VA you wish to configure and click Turn Off if the VA is running.
3. When the VA is Off, select Settings.
4. Click Memory.
5. Select the Static radio button.
6. Specify the RAM value for the memory allotted to the SWG VA.

To reserve a CPU core for your SWG VA:

1. Determine the appropriate value for the CPU reservation. The reservation should be the full CPU frequency of one core.
2. Access the Hyper-V Manager.
3. Right-click on the SWG VA you wish to configure and click Turn Off if the VA is running.
4. When the VA is Off, select Settings.
5. Access the Processor node.
6. Enter 100 in the Virtual machine reserve (percentage) field.
