Issue/Introduction

WMI connections through the Real-Time view can fail when you try to connect to a computer running Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition cloud (SEP SBE).

Cause

This issue can occur when the default configuration of SEP SBE Smart Firewall blocks incoming network traffic for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) connection.

Resolution

For the connection to succeed, the remote computer must permit incoming network traffic on TCP ports 135, 445, and additional dynamically-assigned ports, typically in the range of 1024 to 1034.

  • To open allow WMI connections you will need to make a Smart Firewall rule in the Endpoint Protection Policy and allow inbound and outbound traffic on the following TCP ports:
    • TCP 135 & TCP 445
    • TCP Range 1024-1034

Note: If you are using custom ports you will need to allow those ports in place of these.
