Issue/Introduction

This article lists the current system requirements for Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 for Mac OS X.

Please note that the graph below refers to MP14. That MP has not and will not be released.
For support of Mac OS X 10.11 you will need to upgrade to SED 10.4, see TECH235027.

Resolution

This article will be updated as additional platforms or other system requirements are tested and added for Symantec Encryption Desktop Mac OS X.

Caution: Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 is not currently supported or receives limited support in the following scenarios, however Symantec is currently looking into these scenarios as future features:

  • Mac OS X 10.11 - El Capitan.  See article INFO3077 for more information on this topic.
  • Mac systems which have 4K Native drives.  For more information, see article TECH200098.
  • MP14 was not been, and will not be, released. Starting with Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.4, it is now possible to encrypt Mac OS X 10.11 - El Capitan.  For information on how to encrypt a system running El Capitan, please see article TECH235027.

System Requirements for 10.3.2 GA Release

Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X runs on these platforms:

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.9.1
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.9
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.8.5
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.8.4


Memory and Hard Disk Space System Requirements

Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X requires:

  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 80 MB of hard disk space
     

Compatible Email Client Software

Symantec Encryption Desktop will, in most cases, work without problems, with any Internet-standards-based email client that runs on Mac OS X 10.9.3, 10.9.2, 10.9.1, 10.9, 10.8.5, or 10.8.4.

Supported email client software:

  • Apple Mail 7.x, 6.x, 5.x
  • Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011
     

Compatible Anti-Virus Software

You can use Symantec Encryption Desktop with the following anti-virus software:

  • Norton Antivirus 11
  • Norton Internet Security 3.0
     

To use this anti-virus software with Symantec Encryption Desktop with email, you must disable the Vulnerability Protection option in Norton. To do this, select Auto Protection and then disable the option.
