Issue/Introduction

In a managed Symantec Endpoint Protection environment with Macintosh clients ("SEP for Mac"), an Administrator may wish to hide the Symantec QuickMenu from the client menu bar.

Resolution

NOTE: These instructions apply to SEP for Macintosh 12.1 RU3 and older. See otherwise SEP 12.1 RU4 for Macintosh: How to hide the Symantec QuickMenu

To hide the Symantec QuickMenu on Macintosh clients via policy from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM):

Launch the SEPM console.

  1. Go to the Clients tab.
  2. Select the group with Macintosh clients.
  3. Select the Policies tab in the Client Group.
  4. Expand the Location-specific Settings.
  5. Click the Client User Interface Control Settings to edit.
  6. Leave the Client User Interface to Server control and click "Customize..."
  7. Under "General" uncheck the item to "Display the notification area icon"
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click OK again to accept all changes.
  10. On the next heartbeat cycle the Mac clients will receive the policy changes and hide the QuickMenu item. Users can still open the SEP Mac client GUI by running "/Applications/Symantec Solutions/Symantec Endpoint Protection"

NOTE: If there are any Windows clients in this group the shield icon in the System Tray will also be hidden.
