If you wish to destroy sensitive files or folders completely, use the PGP Shredder feature. When you delete files or folders using PGP Shredder, all traces of the item are removed.
The PGP Shredder feature works by overwriting your data with random text. It repeats this multiple times, or passes. Three passes exceeds the DoD 5220.22-M standard but two passes are sufficient on modern drives.
PGP Shredder can be configured through Consumer Policy if the Encryption Dekstop client is managed by Encryption Management Server. The configuration options are:
PGP Shredder can also shred data in unused drive space (data remanence) using the PGP Shred Free Space Assistant.
This tool shreds the data that remains on your drive after you or an application has deleted files (data remanence). It cleans all the free space on your drive that does not contain actual file data. Naturally, if the whole drive is encrypted, this is less of an issue.
