Starting with PGP Desktop 9.10, PGP NetShare protected folders located on Web servers that support the WebDAV protocol, such as Microsoft SharePoint. Symantec File Share Encryption (previously PGP NetShare) enabled specific users to share protected files in a shared space, such as on a corporate file server, in a shared folder, or on removable media such as a USB drive.
Symantec File Share Encryption allowed the encryption of files seamlessly when stored on a Microsoft SharePoint Server. This new feature is best used with Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows Vista. Symantec File Share WebDAV Support also allows usage with Apache and other WebDAV file servers.
Note that certain types of files, such as .mht files are needed by SharePoint to function correctly and when used in that context, cannot be encrypted by Symantec File Share Encryption.
Supported Usage Guidelines:
Symantec File Share Encryption support for WebDAV works on Windows Vista due to improvements in the WebDAV Redirector.
The WebDAV Redirector is included in the following versions of Windows:
Currently .mht files are not supported when using Symantec File Share Encryption WebDAV support with the Microsoft SharePoint Server.
NOTE: For official support details, please see article TECH209155 as any configuration other than what is specified above has not been tested and is currently in review as an enhancement.
