Issue/Introduction

Without a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) installed in the environment, can unmanaged Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients download definitions and other content from an internal LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x (LUA 2.x) server?  Is it supported having unmanaged SEP clients update directly from an internal LUA 2.x server rather than a SEPM?

Resolution

It is fully supported to configure unmanaged SEP clients to retrieve their necessary updates from a LUA 2.x server in their network.

Export the host file (settings.hosts.liveupdate) from LUA and drop the host file to the clients manually. See Exporting Client Settings for Windows and Java LiveUpdate Clients from the LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x for details.

It is also possible to update unmanaged SEP clients from the legacy LiveUpdate Administration Utility 1.x (LUAU 1.x).  For details, please see Copying the liveupdt.hst file from the LiveUpdate Administration Utility to the clients.
