This article applies to Symantec Encryption Desktop version 10.3.1 only.

Symantec Encryption Desktop encrypts boot disks differently depending upon whether your Windows 8 system boots in BIOS mode or UEFI mode. Windows 8 UEFI boot systems are not supported in this release.

To determine whether your system boots in UEFI mode:

  1. On the Windows 8 Metro Start Screen, start typing msinfo32 (Search automatically appears on the right) and press Enter.
     
  2. In the System Information window, look for the following line:

"BIOS Mode: UEFI"

If this line is missing, or the value is populated with the makers name, your system is booting in BIOS mode.
