Hardware clock guest OS customization fails on Ubuntu 23.10 or later version

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

When customizing a Ubuntu 23.10 or later version, Virtual Machines includes hardware clock setting, customization will fail. The following message will be found in /var/log/vmware-imc/toolsDeployPkg.log file:
"ERROR: Error : Path to hwclock not found. hwclock:".

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x

Cause

hwclock command is not available in Ubuntu 23.10 or later version.

Resolution

This issue has been resolved in vSphere 7.0 U3q and vSphere 8.0 U3 releases.

Workaround:

To workaround the issue, please update Ubuntu 23.10 or later version Virtual Machine or template to install hwclock by running the command "sudo apt install util-linux-extra".
