VCF 5.0.x is not a supported upgrade path if you are running VCF 4.5.2 version.

Issue/Introduction

Upgrading to VCF 5.0.x from VCF 4.5.2.0 is unsupported. In case, VCF 5.0.x bundles show up for upgrade, please follow the steps mentioned in the solutions section.

Resolution

Online/Depot Connected :

After the VCF 4.5.2 upgrade, wait till 5 mins until the new LCM Manifest gets synced on the SDDC manager before performing any SDDC manager operations.

Offline/Dark sites :

After upgrading to VCF 4.5.2 please follow the below instructions:

1. Download the latest manifest published on the VMware depot
   • ./lcm-bundle-transfer-util --download --manifestDownload --depotUser Username
2. Upload the manifest file to the SDDC Manager appliance.
   • ./lcm-bundle-transfer-util --update --sourceManifestDirectory Manifest-Downloaded-Directory --sddcMgrFqdn FQDN --sddcMgrUser Username 

If the 5.0.0.1 bundles do appear on the updates/patches page clicking on "Update now" or "Schedule Update" page will display the below message:

Scheduling immediate update of bundle failed. Bundle (0) not found in applicable upgrades, nor found in scheduled upgrades
 
Also, if the management domain is not entirely upgraded to 4.5.2 BOM and the projected deployment version for the domain is still at 4.5.1, the Config Drift bundle for 5.0 can show as available for upgrade even though this is not a valid upgrade path. This bundle should not be applied since the SDDC Manager is at 4.5.2 and upgrade to 5.0 from 4.5.2 is not supported. Please upgrade to VCF version 5.1 or above.
