Issue/Introduction

VMware is announcing the End-of-Sale (EOS) and End-of-Life (EOL) dates for VMware Cloud on Dell. The last day to order additional hosts or expansion hosts for current VMware Cloud on Dell customers is January 31, 2023. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from VMware as shown in Table 1 of the EOS bulletin. Table 1 displays the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected solution.

Q. What are you announcing today?
A. We are announcing the End-of-Sale (EOS) for VMware Cloud on Dell, a fully managed infrastructure solution for compute, storage, and networking built on Dell VxRail appliances and VMware Cloud software.

Q. Why is VMware announcing End-of-Sale for VMware Cloud on Dell?
A. Our customers are demanding greater flexibility and a choice of deployment options. As a result, we are evolving our product portfolio to align with our multi-cloud strategy. The result will give our customers even greater choice and flexibility with software and hardware purchases.

Q. Will the existing installations of VMware Cloud on Dell continue to be supported by VMware?
A. Yes! All the existing VMware Cloud on Dell deployments with an active subscription will continue to be supported until their End of Contract date. This includes updates and patches being made available and deployed into the customer's environment in the same way they are now. This also includes repair and/or replacement of any Dell VxRail hardware.

Q. Is there an equivalent solution for current VMware Cloud on Dell customers to move to now?
A. VMware Cloud Foundation + on VxRail is often the preferred alternative for VMware/Dell customers. Another option is VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts which is a fully managed on-premises as-a-service offering available today. In addition, VMware has announced VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal at VMware Explore ‘22 with target availability of H2CY23. You can learn about VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal here.

Q. What are the options for migration or replacement of VMware Cloud on Dell after my end of contract date?
A. VMware is fully committed to minimizing any disruptions to our current VMware Cloud on Dell customers and to offering them migration options at the end of their current contract terms.

Q. Will there be a last time buy date for current VMware Cloud on Dell customers to add additional hosts to their current deployments?
A. Yes, please see important dates below in Table 1.

Q. Will VMware allow me to migrate/transition to an alternative VMware solution when it is available, or do I need to wait until my contract expires?
A. VMware is fully committed to minimizing any disruptions to our current VMware Cloud on Dell customers and to offering them migration options at the end of their current contract terms.

Q. Will VMware be offering expansion hosts to current VMware Cloud on Dell customers at a discounted price since the solution is being discontinued?
A. Current VMware Cloud on Dell customers will be offered expansion hosts at the current pricing.
