Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
  • A capacity alarm with event type Minimum Capacity Threshold is reported in the NSX UI.
  • Error description is: "The number of objects defined in the system for Compute Managers has reached 2 which is above the minimum capacity threshold of 70.0%"

Environment

VMware NSX-T Data Center

Cause

In NSX-T 3.2 and later releases, the Manager form factor determines how many Compute Managers are supported:
  • Medium NSX-T Managers support up to 2 Compute Managers
  • Large NSX-T Managers support up to 16 Compute Managers

Resolution

Resize NSX-T Manager nodes to support the amount of Compute Managers configured, or remove Compute Managers.

Note:

There is a known issue in NSX-T Manager version 3.2.x (but < 3.2.3) and the form-factor is Medium (6 vCPU, 24 GB Mem) should should support up to 2 compute managers. However showing the count as 1.

This is a false positive issue on the capacity dashboard framework on the affected 3.2.x versions for 'medium' form-factor NSX-T Manager nodes. It is supported up to 2 Compute Managers as stated in the Configmax guidelines Configmax

This is fixed from VMware NSX-T 3.2.3 onwards.
