This article provides workaround to use Guest OS Customization of Rocky Linux Virtual Machines running on vSphere version less than 6.7 U3p and 7.0 U3c.
Guest OS Customization for Rocky Linux is not fully supported on vSphere 6.7.x, 7.0 GA, 7.0U1 and 7.0U2.
This issue is resolved in vSphere 6.7 U3p and 7.0 U3c.
To workaround this issue:
Option 1:
Using Cloud-init to customize guest OS on these vSphere versions. For customizing guest OS with cloud-init, please refer to Enabling or disabling Linux guest customization with cloud-init (59557).
Option 2:
In Guest OS, update /etc/redhat-release, replace "Rocky" with "CentOS".
