Issue/Introduction

This article provides information why ntpq command is not working on VMware HCX.

Symptoms:
Request timed out occurs when we run ntpq command on VMware HCX Enterprise appliance via CLI. 

hcx-mgr: timed out, nothing received
***Request timed out

Cause

Ntpq command needs to resolve hostname addresses via the loopback network, but this entry does not exist in /etc/ntp.conf.

Resolution

This behavior is by design.
NTP settings can be updated in the appliance management interface.
