Use cases

The VMware SDDC 4.2 on NetApp SDI solution is a completely configured VMware Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) built to a standardized format and architecture providing a private cloud which can be quickly scaled up with the simple addition of servers to meet increased capacity of over 10,000 virtual guest servers per dual region or quickly scaled down with the removal of servers. Existing VMware virtualized data center clients are also able to extend or move their workloads into the Public Cloud which enables companies to address such issues as rapid capacity expansion (and contraction when not needed), migration of workloads to the cloud, the establishment of cloud based backup and disaster scenarios, and the ability to set up development, test, training or lab capacity. All of this can be accomplished by exploiting the operational benefits and agility of Public Cloud to meet the business needs.

Solution Capabilities

The NetApp SDI on VMware Validated Design 4.2  offering provides the basic building blocks for a highly scalable and automated SDDC that can be easily integrated with on-premises and public clouds based on the VMware platform.

Preconfigured Cloud building blocks that include several bare metal servers and the associated VMware stack provide a starting point for scalability, automation and seamless integration to hybrid cloud. This provides short time to value and cost effective implementation using best practices.

NetApp provided open patterns can then be used to rapidly deploy advanced applications into this environment.

Support Information

The VMware Ready Certified Partner Architecture program certifies partner solution architecture based its compliance to VMware Validated Design IT Automation Cloud 4.0.  For more information on the VMware Validated Designs, please see  https://www.vmware.com/software-defined-datacenter/validated-designs . This certification agreement is between VMware and the certified partner for a specific solution architecture only.  The partner solution architecture referenced in this article is developed and supported by a partner.  It is the partner’s responsibility to ensure that the solution architecture is deployed on VMware supported hardware by aligning the hardware with the VMware Compatibility Guide (vCG) or a custom VMware support agreement (RPQ).
