Issue/Introduction

This article provides a list of non-English keyboard layout keys that do not work as expected in the VMware HTML Console 2.1.

Symptoms:
In the VMware HTML Console 2.1, some keys do not work in non-English keyboard layouts

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
VMware vCenter Server 6.0.x
VMware Cloud Director for Service Provider 8.20.x

Resolution

These keys in the non-English keyboard layouts are not mapped correctly in a virtual machine. When you press these keys with a non-English Windows or Mac keyboard, the keys might not work, or a wrong key might be entered in the WebMKS console.
 
Japanese Windows Keyboard:
  • Application Key, PrtScrn, Scroll Lock, ¥, 半角/全角, 英数, 変換, 無変換, カタカナひらがな
  • All keys in numeric keypad when Hiragana/Full-width Katakana/KANA is enabled
  • All keys when Hiragana/Full-width Katakana/KANA is enabled (Host Client only) Workaround: Open the VM console in a new browser tab
IE only:
  • F1
Firefox only:
  • \(ろ) when Kana is enabled
  • F7, F10

German (Germany) Windows Keyboard:
  • Application Key, PrtScrn, Scroll Lock keys, F11
  • 7, 0, +, accented letters, all keys in numeric keypad when Caps Lock is enabled
  • Input ´, `, ^ twice or fourth
  • Keys input with Alt Gr
IE only:
  • F1
Firefox only:
  • F7, F10 ,F12

Portuguese (Portugal) Windows Keyboard:
  • +,Ç, º, <, -, Application Key, PrtScrn, Scroll Lock keys
  • Keys input with Shift or Alt Gr
  • Accents and Accented letters
IE only:
  • F1
Firefox only:
  • F7, F10 ,F12
 
Italian Windows Keyboard:
  • Windows Key, Application Key, Left Arrow, End, F1, F12 and PrtScrn, Scroll Lock
  • Accents and accented letters with Caps Lock on
  • Keys input with Alt Gr
  • Keys input with Right Alt + Shift
Firefox only:
  • F7
