Issue/Introduction

This article explains the Performance Service - Stats DB object check in the vSAN Health Service and provides details about why it might report an error.

Environment

VMware vSAN

Resolution

Q: What does the Performance Service - Stats DB object check do?

A: All statistics collected by vSAN performance service are stored in the Stats DB object. This check verifies these aspects of the Stats DB object:
  • Stats DB object exists
  • Stats DB object is healthy
  • Space usage of Stats DB object

Q: What does it mean when it is in an error state and how do i troubleshoot the issue?

A1: This check is in a Red error state under these conditions:
  • The object does not exist.
    • Solution: To resolve this issue, disable and then re-enable the performance service.
  • The Stats DB object is not 100 percent healthy, but it is still available.
  • The object is unavailable. You can inspect the object to get more details and see if you can fix the root cause:
    • Use this RVC command to inspect the Stats DB object:

      vsan.perf.stats_object_info

    • Review the health check status for the vSAN data object.

If the Stats DB object cannot be fixed, it can be forcibly deleted. If you reach this scenario, raise a Support Request with VMware support and quote this KB article ID (326435) in the SR subject line. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases

  • The vSAN Stats DB object is running low on free logical disk space. This check does not take into account actual physical free space on the datastore. The vSAN Stats DB object is limited to 255 GB. If the utilization reaches above 95 percent, it enters a Red error state. History data in the Stats DB object is kept for approximately three months (93 days), and old data is purged. This check does not report an error of the Stats DB object unless the logical disk space exceeds 95 percent. If this error condition is met, contact VMware Support and file a Support Request.
A2: This check is in a Yellow warning state under these conditions:
  • The Stats DB object is running low on free logical disk space. This does not take into account the actual physical free space on the datastore. The Stats DB object is limited to 255GB. If the utilization reaches above 80 percent, it enters the warning state.
